Paul Gustard visits The Rec

Players benefit from input from one of the game's leading voices ahead of the new season.

Paul Gustard, a renowned figure in the rugby world, recently paid a visit to Camborne RFC, bringing a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm to the club. Gustard, who has an impressive resume as both a player and a coach, is known for his tactical acumen and motivational prowess.

Gustard’s career began as a player, with notable stints at Leicester Tigers, London Irish, and Saracens, where he was recognised for his defensive skills. Transitioning to coaching, he quickly established himself as a leading defensive strategist. His coaching journey included roles with Saracens, where he helped secure multiple Premiership titles and European Cups, and with the England national team as a defense coach, Harlequins and, his current club, Stade Français.

During his visit to The Rec, Gustard conducted a series of training sessions, focusing on modern defensive techniques and the importance of team cohesion. His approach emphasised the need for relentless communication on the field and a structured defensive line, principles that have underpinned his success at the highest levels of the sport.

The players and coaching staff at Camborne RFC were inspired by Gustard’s insights. His visit provided a unique opportunity for the ladies and mens squads to gain perspective from a coach who has operated at the pinnacle of the sport. Sessions included drills on tackle technique, defensive alignment, and breakdown efficiency, all tailored to enhance the club’s competitive edge.

The visit by to Camborne RFC is expected to leave a lasting impact, invigorating the club with fresh strategies and a renewed sense of purpose. As Camborne looks to build on this experience, they are better equipped to face future challenges in the National Leagues with the knowledge imparted by one of rugby’s distinguished coaches.
