Camborne certainly proved they can mix it in higher company with this Roddas Milk Cup clash in of crowd in excess of 2000 at Redruth.
The visitors gave as good as they got and even though they bagged 4 tries they could and probably should have had more with the number of opportunities they created. In the end they were undone with tries either side of the break with the first one coming in the last play of the half.
Camborne will be delighted to have bagged 3 first half tries in front of a packed Hell Fire Corner which certainly quietened the home supporters and is a feat no many clubs have done in recent season.
The performance was even better when you consider the fact they were without ex-professional centre Nico De Battista, captain Jordan Rose, Navy wing Jack Davis and county prop Andrious Zacharovas.
Although the Camborne Man of the Match was undoubtedly hooker Ben Priddey for a superb all round performance including a brace of tries, there were several players who were in the frame.
None more so than no.8 Aden Brassington who had a point to prove against his former club as he showed when celebrating his try. The versatile forward who's taking on the role at the back of the scrum covering for injured club captain Jordan Rose has upped his game this season and has now bagged 10 tries.
Other players who would have impressed watching county selectors were Harry Larkins who made several of his trademark jinky runs before going off injured on 35 minutes. Lock Jack Haezelton has been immense for the team all season and showed that yesterday with a powerful perfomance.
Fly half Aaron Simmonds is going from strength to strength and yesterday his kicking, tackling and superb passing (including the 25yrd effort to set up Rob Gurnett's try) were top drawer. Last but by no means least centre Connor Gilbert was in superb form once again both in attack and defence.
So no trophy for 'Town' but the team should have an opportunity to gain revenge in the Cornwall Super Cup Final, which they will reach if they can avoid a 32 point loss against Launceston in the last league match of the season at Polson Bridge.
