Cambria AFC are excited to announce the arrival of Westwood FC under the Cambria banner.
Westwood have been an established Sunday league team in the Glasgow area for nearly 10 years, returning to the GDSFC for the new season after a brief spell in the Glasgow Coop League.
The team will be Cambria's Sunday league squad and will be known as Cambria Westwood, now the 3rd team at the club along the Saturday Caledonian & GGPL outfits.
Cambria president Ibrahim Blal said: “We are really please with this development for the club. A few of our players, myself included, have been playing for both teams for a while. James, Westwood chairman & manager, has been doing an outstanding job to run Westwood for nearly a decade. The clubs shared the same values of friendship, fairness and inclusion alongside sports performance. It only made sense to bring them together. It contributes to the growth plans of Cambria, with now around 50 active players in the 3 squads. Following the recent partnership with Strathclyde University, this will also provide an opportunity for students of SUFC to be involved on a Sunday and strengthen our exiting bond.”
James Johnstone, chairman of Westwood, said: “Running Westwood for the past nine years has been an incredible joy and an honour. I’ve been exceptionally lucky to work with an amazing group of players and we’re all excited to join a club with the history and values of Cambria.”
With this development, Cambria AFC are positioning themselves as one of the strongest amateur clubs in Glasgow, offering both Saturday & Sunday football to their members in addition of a fervent social & charity activity.
