The 1st XV returned to winning ways away at New Panteg. Canton started well with an early try from player coach Craig Hill well converted by Luke Radford, but New Panteg then took control of the match scoring 3 tries, one of which was converted and a penalty giving them a commanding lead at half time of 20 points to 7. The next score was crucial for Canton if they were to have any chance of winning this game and it came from the reliable boot of Canton’s No.10 Luke Radford converting a well struck penalty, this was followed by a try from the Canton “Flying machine” Peter Hughes, again well converted by Luke Radford bringing the scores to 20 points to 17. Game on!!! With 5 minutes left on the clock a break by Canton up field led to captain Luke Regan being pulled down 10 meters short of the line, but the supporting players managed to recycle the ball and feed Canton’s No. 8 Liam Sullivan who barged his way over the line with 2 or 3 tacklers on his back, again Luke Radford converted taking the score too 20 points to 24 in Canton’s Favour. A nail biting 5 minutes was to follow as New Panteg pressed hard, but Canton held out for a well deserved win. The return of the Rees brothers, Liam and Ryan, in the 2nd row brought some much needed set piece ball from the lineout along with Joel Ward at hooker on his debut in the 1st XV.

The 2nd XV did not fare as well as they lost out to Sully Sports 2nds at home, but the Under 14’s evened the weekend up with a draw at Whitchurch on Sunday.
