Who we are?
Cardiff Lions RFC are Wales’ first gay-inclusive rugby team. We currently operate a 1st XV and 2nd XV which caters to wide variety of players: including gay, straight and queer players. As an inclusive community sports club, our objective is to create a safe environment where players can socialise and feel free to be themselves. We are currently based at the Diamond Ground in Cardiff (CF14 3JN) and train twice a week from 7:30pm to 9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
1st XV:
Our first team play within the Southern IGR and UK League; more information about the IGR can be found HERE.
In recent years, the club has gone through it's most successful period on the pitch, winning the Southern IGR for the past three years in a row, whilst also being crowned UK IGR Champions in the 21/22 and 22/23 seasons.
As part of the IGR league, there are regular opportunities to travel and play rugby across the UK. In the 23/24 season, our aim is to retain our status as UK IGR Champions, look to play more local teams and build towards the Union Cup in 2025 (IGR's premium European tournament, find out more HERE).
2XV:
The current status of our 2nd XV next season is unknown.
