I have received a phone call today from Fraser Gunn with the news that his father Ron sadly passed away last night in hospital at the age of 87. Ron was our club president from day one of the club being formed and has been heavily involved throughout the existence of Carnforth Rugby Club.
A massive rugby union follower and Ron was always on the side of the pitch at Kellet Road supporting any team in the green and black colours of Carnforth - whether it was the 1st team/ 2nd team or the mighty Rockets - Ron was pitch side at every home game.
Both his sons played a while for Carnforth - Fraser and Gary before work took them away from the area.
Ron attended not only every home game and when the opportunity arose he travelled to away fixtures - he rarely missed a club function - sportsmans dinners/ presentation dinners / social events / Xmas nights etc - Ron was always willing to help the committees with the functions. Ron along with Mrs Sandra Crowe were the two people who awarded the trophies at each end of year dinners.
Ron was the recipient of many club awards - he was awarded honorary life membership in 1993 - one of only 7 club members to have the award.

Ron was also awarded his club tie in 1981 - he along with founder members Ian Robson and the late John Marsden were the first 3 recipients of the club ties.
Ron was proud of every player that turned out in the Carnforth shirt and was always happy to mingle with all the players and spectators after the games.
