Seaview RFC 14 - 40 Cathays Cowboys

The Game

The Cowboys travelled to play Seaview RFC in a midweek fixture, needing a bonus point win to keep alive the dream of winning the league. Their cause hadn’t been helped by the fact that they had a spate of injuries recently and the strength of the squad was really being tested.

First half was a pretty one sided affair as the Cowboys were able to get their hands on plenty of ball and play the expansive game they like to play. As a result there were tries in the first half from Gareth “Coconut head” Gee who barrelled over from short range after Cathays had spread the ball around; followed soon after by a try from Hywel “Mad-Dog” Day with a move that took the Cowboys the length of the field, and Mad-Dog finished with aplomb as he got outside his winger then rounded the full back. Then finally, Rhodri “Snowdonia” Jenkins broke through the back line, dummied the full back out of his shorts and took it in under the posts. It was 21-0 at the half, as a result of some blinding kicking from Aki “CJ De Mooi” Davies and the BP win was on.

The second half started and thankfully the Cowboys were able to seal the bonus point win early on, as Jez “EL Mago” Phillips escaped down the short side and gave winger Dan “the butcher” White an easy run in to the corner. This was followed by a beautiful forwards try, as from a driving line out Nick “Harry Potter” Fish followed his pack over for a debut try. To finish off the scoring for the Cowboys, scrum half Rhodri “The Honey Badger” Morris, inspired by his beast award last week, picked up from the base of the scrum and exploded away from the defence and dummied the full back to score under the posts. As a result of the tries and continued accurate kicking of CJ, the score read 40-0. To their credit Seaview did mount a late surge and salvaged some pride with a penalty try and a good try from their 6, who finished a good break from their outside centre. Final score 40-14.

The Good

Commitment, we had a great turnout and effort, especially considering it was a weeknight. People came straight from work and some were even going to work afterwards. It was also great to see the players currently injured coming along to sport. Cowboy Commitment.

The Bad

Sad seeing someone else getting hurt, so get well soon to Buck (who was having a stormer) who split his eye open and had an evening in A&E.

The Ugly

This may as well be called the Dan “Louis Spence/Richard fairbrass/the butcher” White segment. Since his son was born last November here is his record in games -

West Mon (Home) - Put in for an easy try he decided to try and run over their 10 stone, 14 year old fullback. Result – Held up over the line, try butchered.

Rhyader (away) – Clean through, armchair ride to the corner, instead tries to step inside the fullback. Result- stopped short of the line, try butchered. This happened not once but TWICE.

Aberbeeg (away) – Given a pass five metres from the line, and just had to flop over it. Result – drops ball, try butchered.

And then last night the piéce de résistance, given a pass from CJ he just had to put the ball down. Result – mistakes the deadball line for the try line, and runs over it and puts the ball down. Cue much hilarity from opposition and fellow teammates. Try butchered. Cock.

Beast Award

You all are BEEEEAAAASSSSTTTSSS this week.
