Merthyr Saints 1 CCBC 0.
It was a baptism of fire for the 1st team today when we started our league campaign away against Merthyr Saints. If any fixture was going to give us an idea of what life is like at the top end of the Premier Division then this was it. 1st half was very much backs against the wall. They penned us in our half for long periods and closed us down quickly when we had the ball. Granted, we didn’t start well. We had no fluidity to our play and really looked like startled rabbits for a while. We went 1-0 down midway through the half to a poor goal on our part but I suspect they would say different. Either way it was avoidable but deserved. 2nd half we regained our confidence and showed signs of getting on top. They had 1 or 2 chances that were missed but that was it. Our midfield trio of Kieran Davies, Callum Jones and Dan Jones were now starting to get on top of their counterparts and were starting to dictate the play. For the last 20 mins it was very much one way traffic. We threw everything at them but were unable to create a clear cut opportunity despite putting them under huge pressure. The final whistle eventually went and that was that. I’ve got to praise our lads 2nd half efforts today. The character they showed was 1st class. Although disappointed with the result they can leave this game with heads held high. Onto Tuesday now when we welcome Baglan Dragons to our temporary home Bettws looking to pick up our 1st points of the season.
