We welcomed Brecon Corries to a very wet Cae Gof today for a 3rd round cup match. There was very little separating the 2 teams in the league so a close match was anticipated.
The game started at a high tempo with both sides settling well. It was a real contrast in styles today with Brecon adopting the long ball, which was hardly surprising when you consider the average height for a Brecon player was about 6ft 4! As the 1st half went on our slick passing cut them open at regular intervals. Unfortunately we were unable to convert the chances that we were creating. On 39 mins however we deservedly took the lead. Ioan held the ball up really well and then played in Matty Symons who calmly slotted the ball home 1-0. A half that we pretty much controlled but just lacked that cutting edge. 1-0 ht.
2nd half saw Brecon start well. They pegged us in our own half and equalised within 10 mins of the restart. It was all pretty stop start from us. Whilst they were on top we always looked dangerous on the counter attack. We should really of taken the lead midway through the half but Rob Symons was unable to get his shot away after being put through on goal by Ioan Clatworthy. We were creating plenty of chances but really weren’t working there keeper enough. Just as we entered injury time and both sides looking at extra time we were caught on the break. We switched off completely at the back and were punished clinically. A minute later it was game set and match as we were punished again for a mistake and they scored to make it 3-1.
The scoreline flattered them in what was a very tight game. Both sides had there moments but I felt that we didn’t quite do enough to win the game. We did lack a cutting edge to our play today but hey that’s football.
Back to our bread and butter next week when we host Pontlottyn looking to avenge our reverse result up there earlier in the season.
Cup run over but all to play for in the league lads!
