If there was one time you wanted to get your preparation right, it would be for the visit of the current league leaders.
Unfortunately for the Spartans the preparation didn't go according to plan after a third of the team were stuck on the A13 after a major road accident. Spartans manager Aaron Hunwicks was left with only having 10 players up until minutes before the game. The players he had were made up on his 42 year old coach, who although signed on, is mainly just on the coaching staff, a new unfit signing and a 17 year old Reserve playing now making his debut.
The Referee was good enough to push the kick off back by 15 minutes and the FC Baresi management team supported this decision, but no more Spartans arrived, so with no substitutes the Spartans went into battle with the league leaders.
Massive character was shown by everybody in a Spartans shirt for the first 45 minutes, and although the side were under pressure, the score was 0-0 going in to half time.
Changes were made at half time as the rest of the team filtered through to the ground and a full strength Spartans side took the field for the second half.
It was the Spartans who scored first after Peter Adeleye was pulled down in the box and despite a retake, Peter fired it home to put the team in front, although minutes later Baresi were back in it at 1-1.
With an injury to Ryan O'Connell and changes trying to be made, there was confusion in the Spartans ranks with only 10 men on the pitch and Baresi capitalised on this going 2-1 up a minute after equalising.
On 82 minutes Peter Adeleye battled in the box and his attitude of not giving up forced the ball over the line to make it 2-2 with 8 minutes of normal time remaining.
The Spartans still continued to work hard, despite giving everything in the first half and a lapse of concentration at the back post left a Baresi player free to head home the winner on 90+3 and the Spartans were down and out.
A great game to watch and massive character shown by all the Spartans, it wasn't to be and FC Baresi came away with the points in a well played game conducted in a professional way on an off the pitch.
