Take it to the limit - one more time

We rocked up at Sheets Heath Lane expecting a cow field as we remembered this pitch being when we used to play Pirbright here, but were pleasantly surprised to find a reasonable surface and decent sized pitch.
Horsell knew they had to get something from the game to keep the title chase between us two alive and they started brightly going 2-0 up within the 1st 15 minutes - both goals coming from corners, the 1st a simple near post header we defended poorly and the 2nd Liam's punched clearance fell to a Horsell player inside the box who finished sharply.

We had lost play maker Fieldy within the 1st five minutes to a groin strain suffered with his first kick of a ball in the warm up, and were struggling to play our usual fluent passing game without him. But, we got it back to 1-2 on about the half hour, when a long Liam punt cleared the Horsell defence and Jack Hurry's first touch was superb, bringing the ball instantly under control and then curling his shot beyond the decent Horsell keeper.
The highlight of the half came when a beefy Horsell player attempting to waste time by chasing the ball off the field to punt it further away, was dispatched prostrate into the fence of the adjacent tennis court by a classic Damian Touhey body check, rolling back the years and giving the bumper crowd something to laugh about - to rub salt into wounded pride, the guy then got a yellow card, whilst Damian smiled innocently and declared to the ref that he didn't see him coming.

Anyway 1-2 at HT, the 2nd half was pretty even and we got the equaliser via a jack Hurry corner floated to the far post where Luke O'Brien playing with a tightly strapped right ankle, leapt like a salmon to head home (see video).

With about 15 mins left we self destructed a bit when Tommy G and Liam dithered between them over clearing a through ball that should have just been hoofed away or passed back early, the Horsell forward nipped in and flicked past Liam who's outstretched leg tripped the guy for a nailed on pen, which was duly dispatched to put Horsell 3-2 up.

Within minutes we were then down to 10 men when Tom picked up a 2nd yellow from the unusually book happy Kev the ref - you know when Conor OB and Jack Ogle (who never get booked) are shown cards it's a bit harsh, and so was the case with both of Tom's - the 1st a handbags over a free kick saw both players carded when just a calm down word should have sufficed, and the 2nd one Tom swears he didn't touch the guy who went down like a sack of spuds, but there we are.

To be honest it didn't seem to make much difference to the balance of play, which was still pretty even and with the last attack of the game Zach pulled Jack H's cross out of the air, pulled it back to Gary who was tripped just as he was about to shoot for the 2nd stonewall of the game.

Bogey stepped up but.....see video, and the final whistle was blown.

So that sets it up for the final week of the season. next Saturday we are on the 3G at Matthew Arnold v Chiddingfold who need points to stay out of the relegation zone, and we need to match Horsell's result against Bookham to win the title on goal difference (or one goal less to win on more goals scored). There is actually a scenario where it could be all square on every count as we had beaten Horsell 3-2 at home. If we win 1-0 and Horsell win 7-5, it's all square on everything, and a possible play off! But we'll be trying to ensure it doesn't come to that.

Would be good to have a good turn out of support again and then back to The Pelican to toast a great season, no matter what the result.

MoM - Jonesy gave it to Bogey for his 1st 91 minutes!

JP Offord award - Jonesy and Aldo - (or Waldorf and Stadler) it's all very well appealing for fouls etc but they have to stop directing disparaging comments at the refs
