Mike Talbot-Butler takes a well-earned rest!

After a mammoth 43 years, Cheshire County League Secretary, Mike Talbot-Butler has finally written his last league newsletter.

The League Newsletter has become an institution over the years bringing a comprehensive round-up of the weekend (and off season) events that's eagerly awaited by players and supporters each week, across the world.

It's an onerous task but Mike's commitment, with Wynn at his side has never wavered.

Honoured over the years, Mike and Wyn's contribution to local cricket has been phenomenal and they remain as enthusiastic as ever. They aim to take in as much cricket as time permits this year. and have been welcome spectators at Chester and all Cheshire League clubs for many years.

We caught up briefly with Mike who explains, "I've had messages from all over the world, which has quite taken the wind out of my sails. Including one from Phil Thomas having been in Australia and New Zealand, which he greatly enjoyed as did Wynn and I.

"Theoretically I will get a little more time to watch cricket this season with the 18 or so hours a week I'm 'saving'.

"The photo is Wynn and I on the field at Melbourne in late December 1998 after England had completed a remarkable victory over Australia at almost nine o'clock at night, believed to be the latest England have ever won a test match.

"I don't think we've changed that much of course and Wyn is just as beautiful today."

The couple have spent many a happy time at CBH and of course he and Wyn are always welcome to come and watch the cricket with us.

Always content to be unassuming with a fine array of packed goodies, binoculars and an earpiece at the ready for TMS (or the football) on the boundary, we'll look forward to welcoming the 'retirees' in the summer. There'll always be a cup of tea or something stronger on hand.

Thank you for your hard work and commitment.

Mike won't be totally retiring of course. He'll still be covering over 40 games in his usual inimitable way.
