Chew Valley RFC U15s ended a successful season by beating Chard RFC 36-24 in the final of the Somerset Cup in an entertaining game at Midsomer Norton RFC. After victories over Keynsham, Hornets & Yeovil in the earlier rounds, Chew came up against a physical and well-coached Chard outfit. Chew started brightly with Ashton Churchill going over from close range, before Chard hit back to take the lead. Chew continued to play expansive rugby leading to tries for Ralf Warner and George Merrick before Chard scored again to make it 15-14. However, tries either side of half-time for Malakai Thompson, both converted by Max Culverhouse, gave Chew a sizeable 2nd half lead. Three successive yellow cards alongside the efforts of a spirited Chard team tested Chew's resolve, but they showed great character and another individual try from Thompson secured the victory. A great squad effort to end a successful and enjoyable season.
