Upstart Cleveland RL caused a big upset after overcoming the Stockyarders with a comeback in the fourth quarter in the USARL's Midwest development league. Toronto Wolfpack trialist Monte Gaddis inspired his Cleveland team to a shock 26-36 victory at Winnemac Park, Chicago. Cleveland took an early lead through Tony Williams however it was the Stockyarders who soon took control of the game racing to an 12-6 lead with three unanswered yet unconverted tries that would prove costly later from big Malcolm May, Dave Whitney and Sean Mahon. In the second quarter Cleveland captain Gaddis scored early to tie it up before Doyle scored under the posts on the stroke half time with Adjei converting for what would be the Stockyarders only successfully kick at goal.
As the third quarter began, Pawlowski and and Randles scored for the home team to take the Stockyarders to a seemingly unassailable 26-16 lead until Cleveland enforcer Geno McNair and Reuben Williams crossed for Cleveland right at the end of the 3rd quarter to tie the game up at 26-26 again the succesful Cleveland conversions proving the difference to keep them in the game. This seemed to cause the Stockyarders to buckle and further tries from Tony Williams and then from that man Monte Gaddis who gathered a loose ball right on full time and ran 70 yards to score under the posts.
