Last Sunday at Oaklands Park, the Chichester Rugby Club U10s successfully defended their title to retain the crown as Sussex Champions for an incredible third year in succession. This is an extraordinary achievement, unsurpassed in any age group, for a young team who have been undefeated in all their matches this season.
The boys started playing together as Under 6s at CRFC and their head coach, Walter Womersley, commented after their victory that 'over the years the boys have created a unique bond and their commitment and determination never fails to impress all those that watch them. They always give it their all and they are relentless in both attack and defence. Most importantly though they just love their rugby and really enjoy playing. The support throughout the Mini & Junior section, as well the improved facilities and equipment, has meant that Mini rugby at Chichester is going from strength to strength’.

The team won the Sussex West regional held at Pulborough in March which put them into the Sussex Cup Final to play the winners of the other Sussex regionals - Hove, Brighton and Crowborough. The first match was against Hove, and the team showed early nerves, drawing 1-1. In the next two matches they found their form and the next 24 minutes saw them score 10 tries, without conceding any against Brighton (4-0) and Crowborough (6-0).
Team Coach Simon Langford proudly spoke of ‘a great day in the sunshine, full of running rugby, immense defence, hard rucking and tremendous try scoring! The 'never say die' attitude of the boys was a proud-making highlight of the day. The whole squad was involved, and the half-time and full-time discussions led by them, self-critiquing and working out what needed to be done just shows what a talented bunch of boys we are lucky to have at Chichester in the U10s.’
