Chippenham RFC had a great gathering prior to the Rugby on Saturday and it was a pleasure to welcome so many Sponsors of the Club for an excellent Lunch. We think they all had a great day, helped with a comprehensive win by the 1sts over Stow-on-the-Wold.
Chippenham 1sts had a few changes in the Squad but still produced an impressive win that maintains their position at the top of the league, beating the visitors 64-7 in a bit of a one-sided game. It could have been more after an impressive first half of rugby from the whole team and a 40-7 half-time score. The second half didnt click as well and only a further 4 tries were added despite the determined defence from Stow, who could have added to their score with a few chances. At the final whistle, Chippenham had secured the 1st place in the league and also kept their record of getting a bonus from every game so far. They have now passed 300 points scored and averaging 46 per game with their attacking style of Rugby. With the start of the Autumn Internationals next week and England playing the All Blacks, its a rest week for the leagues and then Chippenham can look forward to a trip to Old Cents on the 9th November - Always a tough away match.
Chippenham 2nds traveled the short distance to take on Corsham 1sts in a tasty derby and a meeting of a few friends from over the years. This was always going to be a big match and Chippenham 2nds put together a mixed squad of experience and youth and called upon Semi Nacoko and Ryan Surry to firm up the midfield and Charlie Palmer to ensure smooth service from the scrum. In a competitive match, Corsham stuck to their game plan and and managed to score a couple of tries in the first and built a 16-0 lead at Half-Time. Chippenham put in a big shift and a huge amount of graft from the whole squad but a typical Palmer try wasnt enough and the home side won 23-5 at full-time. There will be a few sore bodies after that derby. Chippenham 2nds can now look forward to a home match against Combe Down 1sts on the 9th November.
Chippenham 3rds also had an away match and it was against the unbeaten league leaders, Supermarine 1sts. Regardless, Chippenham put together a brave bunch of 15 players, including both Newman Brothers, a couple of Academy lads who made their Senior Debut and others who answered the call and played for their Club. It may have ended 52-5 but as was mentioned by Charlie Newman 'Boys amazing effort from the 3rd team. Scoreline doesn't reflect our performance and how much of a battle the game was. Travelling with 15 and going down to 13 v 14 through injury, it was always going to be tough. Amazing debuts from the Academy lads'. The 3rds rightly have a break next week and then they're at home on the 9th November and welcome Swindon College OB 2nds
On Sunday, Chippenham Girls Section had some league action with the Chippenham U16 Girls winning 0-50 away at Royal Wootton Bassett and remaining unbeaten this season, so far. The Chippenham U14 Girls have been playing some great rugby in their first season in leagues and produced a great performance but lost a close game 24-32 against Walcats.
