It is with great sadness that the club has learnt of the death of former Chippenham RFC member, Steve ‘Ashy’ Ashman.
Steve had a genuine passion for rugby and his deep knowledge of the game was such that he became a highly respected member of our club. A versatile player, Steve was capable of playing in several positions in the forward pack yet, despite his slender build, he established himself as a very effective prop forward for the club. Steve played a key role in our 3rd XV’s triple promotion winning side in the early 2000s and he remained a popular and enthusiastic member of the club for many years.
On retirement from playing rugby, Steve devoted his attention to supporting Bath Rugby, engaging in plenty of adventures while following the club home and away for many seasons. Steve was a true rugby man and a gentleman and he will be greatly missed by his many friends at Chippenham RFC. RIP Steve.
Chippenham RFC would like to offer our sincere condolences to Steve’s family and friends. Steve’s funeral will take place at West Wilts Crematorium on Monday 6th November at 2.45pm.
