The last fixture before our Christmas break saw us face Devizes, the weather had even managed to be nice to us. After the usual pre match routines/warm up, the starting team had been selected it was time for the kick off whistle. Now the coaches had selected a team to allow some of the players who don’t always get a chance to start and also play alongside the more experienced players. We were also trying to accommodate requests by the opposing team not to field a so called First team.

I won’t go into a full description of how the match progressed, for the first 15 to 20 minutes most players played in their regular positions, after we had gone a number of tries up players were asked if they would like to play for Devizes and as a coach I was very impressed and proud of the players who volunteered showing they just wanted to play rugby no matter which team they represent. As for the rest of the match many of the players played in different positions, for 15 min we even had a back line of forwards and I have to say they produced one of the tries of the season (may have to have a rethink on backs and forwards for next year).

The final score was 75 - 11 with 10 tries scored and a few conversions with 9 different players scoring. I know I said earlier in the report that Devizes had asked us not to field our first team, I honestly don’t think we have a first team now but a squad of players who can all play exciting effective and entertaining rugby no matter who is on the pitch.

So all I will say now is I hope you all have a Happy Christmas and a great New Year, enjoy the break but remember the first session back on the 10th will be a fitness assessment for the players so don’t let the fitness slide to much.
