The 1s got their first win of the season, beating Newton 66 3-1 at Osborne Park.
We started strongly, using the space that they gave us well and, after a couple of decent penalty shouts, Aaron Paget latched onto a Matt Carroll through ball to slot the ball home and make it 1-0 after 14 minutes.
The lead only lasted 7 minutes when a free kick from our right evaded everyone and dropped in the corner to make it 1-1.
The next 50 minutes were all about us dominating possession but not putting away our chances until Paget tucked away another through ball from Matt Carroll to give us a deserved 2-1 lead after 71 minutes.
It was backs to the wall defending for us for the next 15 minutes before the talking point of the game. Matt Carroll challenged the keeper from a corner and both went down as the ball dropped to Brad Yarnall 12 yards out. Everyone stopped, expecting the ref to stop the game, but he waved play on and Brad calmly knocked the ball in to make it 3-1.
3 minutes later a similar thing happened and Curtis Beetschen eventually smashed the ball in the net, only for the ref to disallow it and give a free kick to the keeper.
A strong performance from everyone, including Connor Ferran and Rob Cook who came on during the second half and looked comfortable stepping up.
MoM goes to Lt. Dan Yates who won everything in the air and made some strong runs from midfield (he said he had more energy this week not having to carry Riches!)
