TAFF ELY & RHYMNEY VALLEY PREMIER DIVISION CHAMPIONS

CHAMPIONS

Our men's 1st team ended the 2021/22 season as league champions for the first time in the clubs history.

53 points was enough to secure the title after a 2-2 draw at home against Cefn Hengoed meant even though the clubs behind had games in hand, Church Village couldn't be caught.

In what was a first full season since the Covid pandemic it was down to consistency throughout a tough campaign that ended with just one league defeat early on in August 2021 to a Cwrt Rawlin side who would push the Village all the way to the end.

The beginning of the season saw big changes within the senior team set up with new management and players coming in with the intention of challenging for the league and promotion to the SWFA Alliance Leagues. It didn't take long for incoming manager, Andrew Higgs to set his stall out with what was expected and the new players gelled very quickly at their new club, everyone was on the same page from the off.

Significant early wins against a few teams who were expected to challenge meant the squad put themselves in a great position from the off and from there on in consistency was the key, picking up vital wins and a few draws in games where maybe performances weren't up to the standards expected, the team showed the grit and determination that is expected to be champions.

A final day 2-2 draw with a Cefn Hengoed side who didn't come to make up the numbers did all they could to spoil the party but an 85th minute goal from recent signing, Nathan Came was the one that clinched it and sent big celebrations at the final whistle among the players and great number of supporters who came to cheer the lads on.

On May 21st the squad took part in the SWFA Alliance Play Offs taking on Cardiff Combination Champions, Fairwater FC where a 3-0 defeat ended the hopes of promotion.

The lads will be back stronger than ever in what will be a tougher and more competitive TERV Premier Division for 2022/23 .

Congratulations to Higgsy and his team on an incredible season. We look forward to the new season and continued success.
