Cill Dara travelled the long journey to Drogheda to play 3rd place Boyne hoping for their first win of the league this season. However, once again a poor second half cost them and they came away empty handed. The first half was a very close affair, the battle fought mainly between the 22s but Boyne probably slightly winning the kicking game. The first score came after 15 minutes when Boyne took the lead with a try and a conversion. Cill Dara got on top for the remainder of the half and when the Boyne scrum-half was sin-binned for a deliberate off the ball tackle near the half way line Cill Dara had the chance to narrow the gap but Rory Conway's penalty effort shaved the right upright and went wide. They failed to capitalize on the extra man but did get on the score sheet a minute before half-time when constant pressure inside the 22 was rewarded with an Adam Meehan try. Rory Conway's conversion hit the post. That left the score 7 - 5 to the hosts at the break.
Cill Dara hoped to bring that momentum into the second half but the turning point in the game came between the 46th and 48th minutes when a penalty and converted try for Boyne put daylight between the teams. That seemed to take the wind out of the visitors and Boyne scored further tries in the 51st and 64th minutes. A gallant Cill Dara side did get some reward for their efforts with a 72nd minute William Doran converted try but Boyne had the last score 2 minutes from time with another converted try. Final score: Boyne 34, Cill Dara 12.
Next Week Cill Dara play bottom of the table DLSP at Silken Thomas Park where they hope they can stem the run of recnt defeats and kick-start the season.
