Clacton Cricket Club had a resounding victory against local rivals Mistley CC on Saturday.
The home side won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Clacton to bat first on a very green and damp pitch. Clacton welcomed back Tom Sinclair after breaking his finger and with both Tom and Joe Fowler showing real determination and skill Clacton started to score at a decent rate. ‘This opening pair are very consistent this season, they compliment each other and certainly provide the team with a strong platform for the rest of the team to build upon’ said Chairman Gary Kirk
Sinclair (51) and Fowler (64 including 3x6) put on 92 in quick time. When Sinclair was out, a rejuvenated Kieron Parkes started to play with freedom putting on 59 with Fowler and although Clacton lost a few quick wickets runs continued to be scored.
Sheikh and Kirk both scored 30, pushing the run rate to 10 an over using their experience and good shot selection, to eventually post a Clacton score of 240-7. ‘This proved to be a fantastic score considering the pitch conditions’ said Kirk.
In reply Kirk (3-19) did what he has done all season so far. He took 3 top order wickets putting Mistley CC in real trouble, but it was the introduction of spin that ensured victory for the Seasiders. ‘ Our club are blessed to have so many spinners, all of them can and will be match winners’ said Kirk. ‘Our seamers have done really well so far but today when conditions suited our spin bowlers they excelled’
‘Our overseas Shaun Mathews having a great day with the ball taking 4-29 and our head coach Luke Summer 3-48 both did a great job, bowling fantastically well, with great skill’ said Kirk ‘It was great to see and they were backed up by a strong fielding performance’
Mistley struggled all day against this Clacton side eventually being bowled out for 145 giving the home side 5 points and Clacton CC 20 points and remain top of the league.
