Clayton fell to a dismal defeat, clearly struggling from a lack of match fitness, as the visitors showed composure to take the tie comfortably. Clayton battled well in spells, but the physicality of the visitors was too much to match at times and Clayton lacked the killer punch with several players playing in unusual positions, given the problematic injury problems currently suffered. The game ended in farce, when a Seacroft player was sent off and a further player involved in a nasty off the ball incident, resulting in Clayton forward Jonny Waddington rushing off to hospital. The referee was unable to regather control of proceedings and blew time, some 7 minutes early!
