Lincs Senior Trophy with a convincing 5-2 win over Bottesford Town.
The Owls made a couple of changes from Saturdays 4-0 win over Parkgate. Louis Grant and Laurence McKay returned to the squad as Marcus Newell looked to beat Bottesford.
It was nearly the perfect start to the game when in the first minute Marc Cooper ran clear but skewed his shot wide of Beedle’s goal.
The Owls kept up the pressure but failed to break the Poachers back line even with some impressive crossing from Luke Mascall and Jonathan Oglesby.
With just 11 minutes on the clock, Mascall came close to opening the scoring but his flash drive went wide after striker Daniel Trott was first denied by a brilliant block.
Trott was once again in the thick of the action as his latched onto a reverse pass by Cooper but his cross-shot was over the bar.
The slippery surface was taken its toll on both sides but Oglesby found his feet first as he danced his way past three players and rifled the ball home past Beedle sending the home fans wild.
Straight from the kick off, Bottesford should have equalised but Tom Wilson could only head into Miles Fenty’s hands from a whipped in corner.
Just as the referee was about to blow for half-time, Bottesford equalised. Wilson managed to out-muscle his marker to head home past Fenty sending the game into half-time level.
The second half started in a quiet fashion as neither side could penetrate each others back line even with Bottesford introducing a half-time substitution.
Back to back corners in the 53rd minute by the Owls were met by two great clearances preventing the Owls from any really chances.
Newell made one change bringing on Peter Winn in replacement of Laurence McKay in a like for like switch.
The Owls took the lead once more in the 56th minute as Louis Grant poked home a lovely worked move in which a one-two with Cooper was sublimely worked.
It was nearly 3-1 just four minutes later but their keeper made a great save from a Trott deflected effort from 20 yards out.
With 62 minutes on the clock Bottesford equalised for the second time in the game as their no.10 ran on a long ball which was missed by Tim Lowe and side footed it past the helpless Fenty in goal.
The visitors nearly had the ball in the net moments later but Lowe managed to clear it off the line to prevent Wilson scoring his second of the game.
At the other end Cooper then missed a golden opportunity after a lovely work move but he could not finish a Grant chipped cross.
The Owls once again took the lead with just 16 minutes left as substitute Brody Robertson spun his marker inside the box and slammed the ball home past the keeper.
Further enhancement of the scoreline should have come with eight minutes to go a Robertson looked certain to score his second but Donald headed off his own line.
The game was put beyond doubt in the 84th minute after Grant raced clear to put the Owls further in charge. Just five minutes later the Owls made it 5-2 as Cooper lashed home a fantastic cross from the left to give the Owls an unassailable lead to book their place in the 2nd round of the Lincs Senior Trophy.
