Two goals in two minutes from Jonathan Oglesby and Daniel Trott turned the FA Vase 4th round tie on its head to give the Owls a 2-1 win over the Church at the Bradley FDC.
Marcus Newell made just one change from last weekends 5-1 win over Retford United. Louis Grant was unavailable and was replaced by in-form Brody Roberston.
In front of a healthy 252 with rain clouds looming the crowd did not have to wait long for a goal but it was to the disappointment of the home fans as it was Alvechurch who took the lead.
A through ball from Dave Bellis found Josh March who spun Peter Winn and sprinted through on goal. Owls keeper Miles Fenty went down to save but March lofted the ball over him to give the visitors the lead.
The Owls tried to react in a positive manner but could not create anything of note as they searched for an equaliser.
Alvechurch did try and test Fenty but Leigh Downing put his shot into the car park from 20 yards out, much to his annoyance.
Last seasons leading goalscorer Robertson did test Alvechruch’s keeper Mark Sargent in the 10th minute as his low hard shot was turned around the post by the shot stopper.
Chances came at a premium for both sides with the Owls having the best of the majority of the half but it was Alvechurch who came closest through Karl Edwards who was twice denied, once by Liam Dickens with a goal line clearance and then by Fenty with a fantastic one-handed save.
With no changes at the break the Owls came out all fired up looking for an equaliser. Oglesby came close within seconds of the half starting but a smart stop from Matt Sargent prevent the man of the match scoring.
He wasn’t to be denied for long though as Oglesby notched his sixth goal of the season after a Peter Winn cross was flicked on by Marc Cooper into the wingers path to slot home the equaliser.
With the home fans in great voice, the Owls went on ultra offensive mode and within two minutes was level. A cross from the right found Trott in acres of space at the far post, he had time to compose himself and slotted home giving the Owls the lead.
Alvechurch huffed and puffed for an equaliser but the Owls stern defence stood strong to record a famous win for the Lincolnshire side.
