In the Owls’ penultimate pre season friendly, Cleethorpes recorded a 4-2 victory over Stavely MWFC.

Cleethorpes made a lively start to the match and went close to taking the lead in the 1st minute through captain Alex Flett after a great ball in from Jon Oglesby, however Flett’s effort was well saved by Lease.

In the 11th minute, the Owls went close again, as Danny North tried his luck from a long way out but his effort was denied by the post after beating the goalkeeper.

Clee continued to push forward and almost scored on the 24th minute, when Danny North broke through on goal, however his effort went wide.

A few minutes later, North went close again, after some good work by Jon Oglesby put the forward through on goal, but North’s effort went wide.

In the 33rd minute, Stavely took the lead, as a poor back pass played in the Stavely forward, who then rounded Higton and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Despite being behind, Cleethorpes continued to have the best of the game and eventually leveled the score through Alex Flett just before half time, as the midfielder found the top corner with a free kick from the edge of the penalty area.

The Owls started the second half strongly, and took the lead in the 55th minute, after some good work on the right from Jon Oglesby, and he then crossed the ball into Danny North who made no mistake from close range.

Stavely responded almost instantly and equalised on the 58th minute with a very well taken goal after some great build up play.

Cleethorpes made it 3-2 with a great team goal in the 70th minute, after some great link up play between North and Oglesby before setting through Andy Taylor who placed the ball into the corner of the net.

The Owls made it 4-2 just before the end of the game as Flett bagged his second goal of the game. The midfielder was brought down on the edge of the area before taking the free kick and placing it into the top corner.

It was another good performance for the Owls as they continue to prepare for the start of the season in 2 weeks time.
