Cleethorpes Town went to Barton Town Old boys on Saturday and with 6 first team players away, it represented the perfect opportunity for the players available to get valuable minutes under their belt and to stake a claim for a place.
The game started and it was end to end as both sides started well and where looking to gain advantage. Higton was called into action first and saved to his right hand side as Barton attacked down the left and a shot inside the area was saved. At the other end a corner into the
box saw Bloomer rise and his header just went wide of the goal.
Cleethorpes took the lead as McKay played a smart ball into the channel where Cooper picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty box, where Cooper dispatched his shot into the bottom corner of the net. The lead did not last long as Barton equalised from a corner and ball on the floor was put into the net.
Barton then took the lead before half time as Barton found themselves one on one and the
ball was sent into the net to give Barton the lead at the break.
Cleethorpes started the 2nd half with intent and soon found themselves level as Osbourne intercepted a loose ball on the edge of the area and the ball was lobbed over the advancing keeper 2-2. Then some drive from midfield by McGrath he took the ball forward as he fed the ball into Aldrich who took the ball to the byline and his cross found Osbourne to knock the ball home from a couple of yards out.
The scoring ended as Barton equalised late on in the game as the game ended 3-3
We wish Barton all the best in the coming season
