Just 4 days after beating Loughborough University, the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup sees Walsall Wood visit. It was a good performance on Tuesday, with Josh Batty (pictured celebrating his recent goal against Frickley Athletic) grabbing the winner.
Like the Scholars, our visitors ply their trade in the Midland League Premier Division and currently sit in 10th place, having taken 11 points from 7 outings. They look to have a very mean defence with just 5 goals conceded in the league. There is also a very recent form guide, with tomorrow's opponents beating the University 3-0.
Wood have reached this stage by beating Worcester City (on penalties after a replay) and Whitchurch Alport.
The Owls should be full of confidence after Tuesday's win and will start the game as favourites. However, we can all recall many FA Cup upsets over the years and we will need to be close to our best to progress.
A victory would equal our best ever run in the competition in 2014/15, when we defeated Borrowash Victoria, Gresley and Carlton Town, before narrowly falling 2-1 to North Ferriby United in the 2Q.
So, as well as the £6k prize money at stake, there is also the chance to join ex-league teams, such as York City and Stockport County in Monday's draw. If the match ends level after 90 minutes, it will be down to Walsall for a replay on Tuesday evening.
Get yourself along to New Linden tomorrow to cheer on the lads and be part of the magic of the Cup!
