What an occasion in prospect on Saturday (3pm) as New Linden hosts the biggest match in its history.
Guiseley are the visitors for our first ever venture in the FA Cup Third Round Qualifying. The winners of the tie will stand just one tantalising victory away from joining the "big boys" of Leagues 1 & 2 in the draw for the First Round proper.
We enter the encounter as clear underdogs, with the Lions standing a full 51 places above the Owls in the pyramid. They currently sit in 13th place in the National North. Guiseley entered the world's most famous knock-out competition in the last round and eased to a comfortable 4-0 scoreline at NCEL side Staveley MW.
We, of course, have been reserving some of our best form for the Cup. After overcoming Loughborough University in a replay, Walsall Wood were defeated 4-1. When Evostik Premier Bamber Bridge fought back to force a 3-3 draw, many neutrals assumed that it would be curtains for Clee.
Not a bit of it though, as the Sir Tom Finney Stadium surely witnessed one of the best ever displays by a visiting team. It really was an "I was there" night, as Brig suffered a heavy 5-0 beating, with a hat-trick from the outstanding Jon Oglesby. To put the performance into perspective, the Lancashire outfit won their next home fixture 6-1!
One or two injury worries currently for the Owls, with a couple of late fitness tests expected. Josh Batty will also miss out due to suspension.
So, it is a game that only the brave would want to predict. On paper, it is a huge task for us but, as we all well know, we certainly do not mind the mantle of underdogs. Great gesture from the committee to reward our ever loyal fans by keeping the admission prices at their usual level:
Adults £8
Concessions (over 65s and 16-18) £4
Under 16s £2
Gates open at 12.30pm, so why not come down early and treat yourself to a pre-match tipple & a bite to eat in our well-stocked clubhouse.
If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the replay will take place next Tuesday (9th - 7.45pm) at Nethermoor Park.
UP FOR THE CUP!!
UP THE OWLS!
