The game started 15 minutes late as Thunder and lightening above saw the heavens open as a the ground was subject to a torrential downpour, on the newly laid pitch at Crofton Community Centre. Cleethorpes started strongly with Brody Robertson causing problems down the right hand side and with Robertson going close, then Marc Cooper going close, it looked liked the game was going to continue in the same vein. Though for some reason the rest of the half saw Cleethorpes take the wrong options rather than keep in simple, they where intent on trying to find that killer pass with every ball.
When this was not the case they did well creating chances, the lead came from an unlikely source as from a corner Richard Peck powered home a header into the roof of the net at the near post, Nostell to their credit saw Beattie at the other end in fine form as he denied 2 attacks as the home side broke through as the first half drew to a close.
The second half saw Cleethorpes on the front half clearly intent on pushing forward, which left gaps at the back and Nostell broke with a 3 men against 2 but could only shoot wide, with the warning not heeded a similar move saw Nostell equalise. This seamed to see Cleethorpes move up a gear and Peck was on the score sheet again and again a header from a corner as the Nostell marking was non existent. Cleethorpes where clearly in the ascendancy and where looking to attack down either flank doing what was missing in the first half and a flowing move saw the ball switch flanks as Cleethorpes probed away and a quick change of pace to the move saw the ball come into the box where Luke Mascall came in at the far post to head home under a challenge to make it 3 - 1.
The next goal came from 2nd half substitute Jack Debnam as he broke in the box to slot calmly under the advancing Nostell keeper, then another substitute Louis grant with the final kick of the game fired home inside the box after being teed up following a fine move. In the end a great win away from home though there is plenty to ponder for manager Marcus Newell as he looks to instil more good habits than bad.
