In one of only 3 games that went ahead in the NCEL on Saturday, the game beat the weather thanks to the efforts of the ground staff at Bradley Football Development Centre who helped to remove some of the standing water from the pitch to ensure the game went ahead.
Their efforts were matched by the Owls who adapted to the conditions and were denied by some fine saves by the Armthorpe goalkeeper in the early minutes.
The breakthrough came after a sublime finish from Brody Robertson who took the ball on the by line and curled the ball over the advancing keeping into the far side of the goal to warm up the watching spectators as the rain started to fall once again.
Armthorpe were offering very little going forward and what was on offer was being dealt with by the Cleethorpes defence well.
Cleethorpes 2nd came from stand in striker Kirk Wheeler who reacted quickly in the box to knock home the rebound as the ball fizzed around the box following some good work from Jack Debnam and Brody Robertson.
There was time to add to the score line before half time as Robertson hit his second with a calm finish in the box to make it 3-0 at the interval.
The second half saw Cleethorpes being the only side interested in the game as Armthorpe failed to show any will to get involved.
Cleethorpes were clearly focused and intent on building on their first half display and it was Jonathan Oglesby who made it 4-0 as his shot from the edge of the area through a crowded penalty box beat the despairing dive from the Armthorpe keeper.
Shortly after Robertson got his hat trick as he took advantage of a great through ball from midfield to round the Armthorpe keeper to slot home, Cleethorpes continued to press with Flett, Debnam and Hanslip all going close.
Cleethorpes final goal came as a free kick from the edge of the box was picked up by Lawrence Heward who ran from deep to beat the offside trap to knock home to make it 6-0.
With Jack Barlow and Jack Richardson going close in the final stages Cleethorpes wrapped up a convincing win that saw them jump up to 5th in the league table
