A second half dominant display saw the Owls run our 4-0 winners today over Parkgate FC for their sixth straight league win.

All the goals came in the second as Brody Robertson, Laurence McKay, Marc Cooper and Luke Mascall all found the net in an impressive win.

Marcus Newell made three changes to last weeks 3-2 win away at Thackley. Liam Dickens, Laurence McKay and Brody Robertson all made a return to the starting 11.

The Owls started the game with a high tempo however it was the visitors who nearly took the lead within two minutes as Grech-Broursbank missed his head from a long free kick but Louis Peaty managed to latched onto it but from a tight angle his shot from close range hit the side netting of Miles Fenty’s goal.

Just three minutes later Parkgate Keeper Ben Brunt was on hand to deny Cooper with a one-handed outstretched save to prevent the Owls from taking the lead.

At the other end a powerful shot from Alex Lill nearly troubled Fenty but thankfully the ball flew past the outside of the goal.

From the goal kick, the ball was worked forward and found Mascall in the channel who dinked his way past his marker and produced a pinpoint cross for Cooper but he could not steer his header on target.

The Owls pushed further forward to found the Parkgate defence stern and unforgiving. Both Alex Flett and Jack Richardson were denied by blocks just outside the area on the half hour mark, then Dickens could not get onto the end of a brilliant Robertson low cross as Dickens slide inches away from the ball.

Robertson then though he had scored as he peeled away celebrating after poking the ball home but was adjudged to have fouled the keeper for a challenge in mid-air.

The half-time whistle came but not before another goal was ruled out, this time it was Matthew Kingston who was denied as Robertson’s cross was deemed to have crossed the byline and a goal kick was awarded by the linesmen on the near side.

Neither side made a change at the break as the Owls looked to turn their domination into goals at the beginning of the half.

The 214-strong crowd did not have to wait long though for the first goal of the afternoon to come. Robertson was the first to react from a spilt Cooper shot from just indie the box as the ball was rolled home by the youngster for his 60th career goal.

It was so nearly 2-0 25 seconds later but Brunt was on hand to hold a strong Jonathan Oglesby shot whose rifled effect looked goal-bound.

The relenting pressure continued by the Owls, as Mascall and Robertson were then both frustrated by Brunt’s firm hands in the Parkgate goal.

However, he could not deny McKay making it 2-0 with just over twenty minutes to play. A corner from the left was whipped in and not dealt with as McKay stabbed home from 4 yards out.

The game was put beyond any doubt in the 76th minute as Cooper lashed the ball from 23 yards out. Oglesby laid the ball into his path and arrowed his right footed shot towards goal. Brunt managed to get a hand onto the ball but the shot was too strong and the ball sailed into the net sending the home fans into ecstasy.

With the clock ticking down and both sides not overly pushing forward it seemed like the game would end 3-0, but Mascall was not having any of it. A corner was won in the 94th minute and he smashed the ball home which was delivered inch perfect straight to his right foot to smash home.

The referee blew moments later gifting the Owls with their sixth straight league wins, which now sees them 5th in the standings.
