The Pikes raced into a 2-0 lead before the Owls were level by the break thanks to an own goal and a smart finish from Alex Flett. A penalty miss from Marc Cooper summed up the day as Pickering scored on the break to give them the win. Tim Lowe was sent off deep into injury time for a foul on the far side which summed up todays performance.
Marcus Newell kept with the same side that beat Handsworth Parramore on Tuesday night in the 3rd Round of the FA Vase.
The Owls must of been nursing a hangover from Tuesday as they made the worse possible start. Just one minute in and the Pikes were awarded a penalty kick for a handball by Laurence McKay. Lewis Taylor smashed the ball into the back of the net from 12 yards sending Miles Fenty the wrong way.
The bad afternoon continued as both Cooper and Luke Mascall missed good chances from close range. Then, with 11 minutes on the clock Pickering went 2-0 up when Ged Dalton was first to react to a Ash Hopes spilt cross to send the away fans in delirium.
Further chances for the Owls came and went with Mascall going closest in the opening 25 minutes after a one-two with Jack Richardson, he meandered through the heart of the defence but dragged his shot wide.
However, a turn of fortune came just a minute later as Ash Hope nodded into his own net from a Jonathan Oglesby near post cross.
The comeback was complete five minutes before the break when Oglesby was once again the orcherstrater as his cross found Flett who’s side-footed shot was deflected past Peter Lawrie into the Pickering goal.
No changes were made at the break as the Owls made a great start to the half and should have taken the lead through Cooper but he shot from six yards out was save by Lawries feet.
Closer the Owls came as Cooper saw a chipped effort cleared off the line after Trott’s initial header was parried by Lawrie.
With 63 minutes on the clock the Owls had a brilliant chance to take the lead. Oglesby made a superb run down the wing, he dinked the ball past Hope who upended the winger giving the referee no choice but to award a penalty. Cooper stepped but Lawrie saved the spot kick then Cooper skied the rebound much to his annoyance.
The Owls knocked and knocked on the door but just could not squeeze the ball home and was ultimately punished as Nathan Kamara managed to get onto a long ball which was missed by everyone and he had the easiest of finishes to give Pickering the lead once more.
With five minutes to go substitute Brody Robertson had a great chance to level the game but was denied with a sublime one-handed save from Lawrie.
Deep into injury time the Owls were reduced to ten men following a red for Tim Lowe to compound the misery.
The Owls continued to huff and puff but could not carve out a goal as Pickering inflicted the Owls 4th home defeat of the season.
