Owls beaten away for the first time since September

Cleethorpes Town fell to their first away loss in the league since September today as they went down 2-1 at Parkgate FC. Adam Johnson put Parkgate in front before Brody Robertson levelled before the break, however the home side took all three points after Joshua Moore's shot found the back of the net.

Marcus Newell kept with the same squad for the third game running, or he would have if Matthew Bloomer had not being injured during the warm-up and had to be replaced with Laurence McKay.

It was the hosts who were the quickest of the mark and should have taken the lead in the fifth minute but Ben Thornton's 20 yard lob landed on the roof of the net.

Just three minutes later though the home fans had something to cheer about as Johnson managed to squeeze away his shot and it found the bottom corner as it squirmed through Miles Fenty's fingers.

Only eight minutes later and the Owls were level as Robertson netted for the 27th time this season as his shot squeezed into the bottom far corner giving keeper Joshua Lill no chance.

Parkgate though they had retaken the lead just on the half hour mark as Johnson netted once more but the linesmen on the far side had signalled that he was offside.

With no changes at the break, Parkgate set out to retake the lead quickly and did so eight minutes into the half. After some poor defending Moore pounced and prodded the ball home past Fenty much to his angst.

The Owls squandered several good chances to equalise. Firstly, Marc Cooper was denied from eight yards as Oliver Yates blocked his powerful shot. Then Alex Flett's shot from just outside the box went inches wide.

With the Owls huffing and puffing for an equalising it looked like it had come deep into injury time but Peter Winn's looping head came crashing back off the crossbar and as the referee blew for full-time, Newell knew it would be an uphill struggle to catch Tadcaster Albion at the summit of the table.
