Today, we started our new season and our first ever season in the Evo Stik league as we welcomed Gresley to the Bradley development centre.

Despite the Owls having most of the ball early on in the game, the first effort of the match came from Gresley as a long range effort from the Gresley midfielder was straight at Higton.

However, for the rest of the half, Clee were the side looking the most dangerous and in the 15th minute, some good build up play from the Owls led to Dickens being through on goal, however his effort was saved. Then, just moments after the Owls had the ball in the net, as Matt Bloomer headed in a Flett cross, only for it then to be ruled offside by the linesman.

The Owls continued to push for an opener, as Andy Taylor went close, after he rounded the Gresley goalkeeper, however his effort just went wide of the far post.

Clee then got the goal they deserved in the 34th minute, as a cross by captain Alex Flett was turned in by the Gresley defender for an own goal.

In the 40th minute, Cleethorpes doubled their advantage, as a free kick from full back Peter Winn was headed in by experienced defender Matty Bloomer.

After the halftime break, Cleethorpes made a bright start and almost grabbed a 3rd goal in the 52nd minute, as Flett pulled a ball back to Liam Davis whose effort was denied by a defender on the line.

Gresley pulled one back shortly after, as a good ball into the box found Stevenson who cleverly placed the ball over Higton and into the top corner of the net.

Just before the 70th minute, Cleethorpes made it 3-1, as Andy Taylor found himself in on goal, before he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Shortly after Taylor’s goal, Oglesby almost made it 4-1, as he hit the post after a great cross into the box from midfielder Liam Davis.

Shortly after coming onto the pitch, Danny North tested the Gresley goalkeeper, as his powerful shot was well saved in the 76th minute.

The final goal of the match came in the 79th minute, as Oglesby’s pass eventually made it’s way to Flett who then powered a shot emphatically into the bottom corner of the net to make it 4-1.

It was a dream start to life in the Evo Stik league for the Owls and it gives the players some good momentum heading into the upcoming games.
