Cleethorpes Town maintained their four-point lead at the top of the Lincolnshire League with a comfortable 3-0 win against Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves.
In-form Luke Todd scored twice in the first half for Andy Liddell’s side before Brody Robertson sealed the win just before the hour mark.
For the first time this season, the Owls named a starting eleven which was unchanged – the last match being the 14-0 drubbing of Sleaford Town Reserves last weekend.
Cleethorpes were animated in the early moments of the game, with Todd, Lewis Wilson and Luke Neul all making chances but missing the target.
Moorlands were almost gifted the opening goal 15 minutes into the match when Rob Greetham’s back pass to Scott Drury was slightly short. Drury though was quick to avert the danger and just cleared to safety.
Both Todd and Wilson had the ball in the net in separate incidents halfway through the first half but both goals were disallowed for offside.
The breakthrough though came soon after, with Renzie Lobendhan and Robertson linking well before a grateful Todd took the chance to give the Owls the lead.
Todd was looking lively and he doubled his and Cleethorpes’ tally with the half nearing an end. Darren Hanslip’s made a positive run towards the heart of the Moorlands defence and slipped in Todd who finished with class.
He could have completed his hat-trick and grabbed his tenth league goal of the season on the stroke of half time, but smashed the ball over the Moorlands bar after Robertson’s pass.
The second period was a quiet affair with Moorlands offering little danger and looking unlikely to threaten the Owls’ two-goal advantage.
Todd missed an excellent chance to extend the lead but Robertson did make it 3-0 with a composed finish after being sent in one-on-one with the Moorlands goalkeeper.
Moorlands hit the upright with around 20 minutes still to play but it proved to be the only real opportunity of a subdued 45 minutes.
The introduction of Cleethorpes striking duo Phil Cawley and Ricky Belding lifted the intensity of the game, with Belding nearly adding a fourth, but the match finished 3-0 in the Owls’ favour.
Cleethorpes Town are back in Lincoln on Wednesday night when Lincoln United Reserves are the hosts at Ashby Avenue.
