Cleethorpes Suffered there Heaviest defeat under manager Andy Liddle as the visiting side to Albion sports where beaten 4 – 0
Cleethorpes had started the game relatively well and saw chances from Marc Copper and Jason Flint go wide of goal, though recent deficiencies where soon coming back to haunt them as the play in the final third lacked any composure as this was best illustrated as Oglesby was sent clear and as he ran at the Goalkeeper Arian Brian, he over the ball and the keeper was able to comfortably gather and that seemed to sum up the Cleethorpes first half display. Daniel Barrett saw an long range effort go high over the bar and Flint was unlucky as he chased down a back pass which the keeper cleared as it cannoned off the advancing Flint but the wrong side of the goal.
Despite all this Albion Sports processed incisiveness up front as they attacked with pace and purpose and with their first effort on goal Karl Hall fired a shot inside the area that beat Scott Drury on his near post to give the hosts the lead. Cleethorpes tried to respond and saw another effort from Marc Cooper go wide and Flint headed over a Barrett cross. Albion raised there game and saw efforts Jackson and Cusack go close, then just before half time a corner into the Cleethorpes box was met by the unmarked Adam Jones who headed the ball into the corner of the net.
Cleethorpes had their work cut out in the second half and started brightly with half time Sub Lee McFarland adding some much needed impetus in the forward line, Cleethorpes where getting the ball into the box at will at times but where being met by a resilient Albion defence and despite this Cawley saw an header go wide, Marc Cooper then saw an effort fumbled by the Brian in the Albion goal but no one was on had to capitalise, Hanslip saw an header go wide following a cross from Barrett. Cleethorpes where certainly pressing as they saw efforts from Oglesby, Cawley and McFarland fail to test the keeper.
Albion at the other end saw an free kick from Jones saved by Drury, then Cleethorpes night was summed up as both Mc Farland and Cooper combined with Hanslip that found the latter fire straight at the advancing Brian in the six yard box. Cleethorpes where then hit by two late goals from Albion Sports as they ran out 4 – 0 winners, to which they deserved.
Cleethorpes will be looking to bounce back on Saturday when they entertain Shirebrook Town.
