The Game was a treat for those who attended the Bank Holiday spectacle that saw two sides who went in search of a win that would force themselves into hunt for promotion, what was witnessed was a game that did not disappoint as the sides shared 6 goals equally between them in the cracking 3 – 3 draw.
Cleethorpes made the best start possible going ahead in the first five minutes as a ball was whipped into the box where it found Marc Cooper who volleyed into the net, Cleethorpes where soon defending and Lowe had to be at his best to cut out Emley attack, then Emley pulled it back as a corner into the box and Kenworthy strikes at the far post to level.
Flett was proving instrumental in most of the Cleethorpes attacks in a game that was continuing to flow end to end, Hanslip was fouled on the edge of the box but the resultant free kick saw Lowe’s effort comfortable saved, Clee regained the lead as Marc Cooper flicked on a cross where Coleman strikes into the roof of the net at the far post. The lead did not last long as a long goal kick from Emleys Keeper was allowed to bounce and Kenworthy stole in between the two centre backs to lob the advancing Drury to level for the second time just before half time.
The second half started with both sides clearly edgy given the importance of gaining a result as a big 45 minutes lie ahead. The first chance of the half sees Mascall strike wide, Emley though where not content to sit back so we where quickly back to the end to end affair that was served up in the first half.
Flett then sees a header saved following a cross by Lowe, then a Oglesby run down the left sees the ball crossed into the Emley box and Flett see;s his effort strike the bar, Clee where creating the clearer chances and Steven Cooper sees shot go over the bar. Clee where pressing and retook the lead as Oglesby crossed to the far post where Mascall came in unmarked to slot home to make it 3 – 2.
Emley had to respond and Drury makes a great save following vicous strike in the box, then a ball in the box from a free kick sees the ball evade Drury and Cook scores at the far post to level for the third time.
Both sides still tried to push forward but with the 90 minutes up both sides had to settle for a point a piece, when both really needed three but despite the result Cleethorpes moved up to 3rd in the league.
Next game for Cleethorpes is on Saturday when they entertain Dinnington Town at Bradley 3pm kick off.
