Cleethorpes Town travelled to Hemsworth Miners Welfare in the return fixture from last week and it was a nervy start for both sides as both found it difficult to settle. Jason Flint was first to go close for Cleethorpes as he shot wide following a cross from the left. Hemsworth were not going to sit back and they saw an effort from Will Kemp saved well by Scott Drury. Chances where coming at both ends this time Marc Cooper was put through put he could not connect properly to the ball and saw his effort go wide much to the striker’s frustration.
It was Hemsworth turn to spurn an opportunity this time a poor header back from Coleman was incepted by Neil Towler but he could not test Drury as Drury was quick to see the danger and smother the ball. Flint then went close again almost in identical fashion as he fired over from the angle. Cleethorpes must have been wondering if it was going to be their day and this was compounded when Flint passed the ball back out for a throw in level with the penalty area and as the ball came into the box Towler flicked header looped into the box evading Drury as Hemsworth took the lead. Daniel Freeman for Cleethorpes forced the first save out of Neal May in the Hemsworth goal following some neat work from Darren Hanslip and Jason Flint, Drury was back in action again as he denied goal scorer Towler as he spun in the box.
The half was summed up for Cleethorpes as Cooper saw and effort saved by May just before half time.
Not long after the restart Hanslip was brought down in the area by keeper May and full back Barrett took the responsibility and sent the ball into the left hand corner past May to level the scores. Cleethorpes where clearly lifted and pressed forward a bit more but where nearly made to pay as a Free kick to Hemsworth saw Drury have to make a quick double save. Freeman at the other end saw and effort go wide after Cooper had teed him up in the area. A ball into the Hemsworth box from a corner landed to Hanslip but he could only blast the ball over from 4 yards out. Mcfarland on as second half substitute added a bit of energy to the forward line as both forwards where changed with Cawley coming on also but Cleethorpes got sucked into a long ball game as they looked to launch the ball forward as they lacked that bit of composure in the final third.
Late efforts from Cawley who headed wide and McFarland who shot wide failed to test May in the Hemsworth Goal. In the closing stages McFarland surged into the box and his effort narrowly went wide. Cleethorpes certainly had the chances to win and on another day they would of given the chances in the second half that went astray.
Next up is a midweek trip to Albion Sports before they host Shirebrook on Saturday at Bradley.
