Cleethorpes Town put in a professional performance at Appleby Frodingham on Saturday as they hit their hosts for 6 goals without reply, which moved them up the league by another place into fourth place ahead of Bank Holiday Mondays crunch clash at Bradley when they host Emley at 3pm.
Cleethorpes made 4 changes to the team with starts for Oglesby, Richardson, Belding and Marc Cooper starting the game, the game was scrappy to start with but Cleethorpes gradually took control and commanded the game, Marc Cooper set the warning signals to the hosts when his shot hit the upright from a tight angle.
The pressure was building with play confined in the Appleby Frodingham half Belding was set free but was unable to take the chance as his effort was saved, then a cross into the box from wide found M Cooper who headed inches over. The opening goal came from a corner from Oglesby where the ball found Flett 2 yards out and he duly obliged in smashing the ball home to provide the 1st goal. The second soon followed as Belding cut in from the left hand side into the box and his cross was turned into his own net by the Appleby Frodingham defender. At half time Cleethorpes where comfortable with a 2 – 0 lead.
The second half saw Cleethorpes straight back at the Appleby Frodingham defence and Belding saw and effort go wide, Oglesby then opened up the space down the left hand wing and his ball allowed Belding to get on the score sheet from 15 yards out. Beldings first soon became his second as he charged in on a poor back pass to slot home past the keeper. Cleethorpes where in no mood to let up at this stage as M Cooper ran at the Frodingham defence, which forces a save from the goalkeeper.
The fifth came as Liam Dickens hit the ball from the edge of the area and his curling effort flew straight into the top corner, Richardson quickly followed with a rasping 25y yard effort that forced the keeper into an excellent save. At the other end Drury was finally force to make a save as he saved an effort low down from a shot outside the area. Stephenson at the other end turned his defender inside out but his effort was straight at the keeper who saved.
Cleethorpes finished the scoring Marc Cooper slotted home from the edge of the area to cap a professional performance in readiness to the test that awaits them on Monday
