Cleethorpes Town made a number of changes ahead of their trip to Knaresborough Town for their game on Saturday as they sought to bounce back from their midweek defeat.
Cleethorpes started brightly and where intent on putting pressure on the Knaresborough defence from kick off and those intentions where soon displayed as a through ball from Heward set Emson away on goal but his shot was saved, this should have been a warning to Knaresborough. Then Lowe played a clever ball through the heart of the home side’s defence where Mascall was free to pick up the pass, to slot the ball home to give Cleethorpes a deserved lead.
Cleethorpes continued to push and Emson saw a shot go narrowly wide before the same player saw a header saved, Knaresborough leading scorer Heard then saw a shot hit the bar. This though dis not deter Cleethorpes who continue to press forward and a Robertson pass teed up Cooper who’s shot was saved.
Just before half time Fenty had to palm away a cross under pressure from two Knaresborough attackers as the owls went in at half time a goal up.
Knaresborough took control of the early stages of the second half as they looked to get back in the game but it was Cleethorpes who where looking the more dangerous as Cooper was able to set up Robertson but his shot was well saved, Hanslip then saw an effort go wide before an Emson shot was again saved.
Knaresborough then equalised as a shot from outside the area was well saved by Fenty but the rebound fell to attacker who scored, Knaresborough where now on the ascendancy as they searched for the winner and a quick counter saw a ball to the far post headed past Fenty as Knaresborough took the lead with minutes to go.
Cleethorpes responded and a saw a Belding shot rebound of the post, then a surging run from Sawyer into the box saw the defender upended and the penalty was given as Lowe stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to make it 2 – 2
Next game for Cleethorpes is on Saturday when they entertain Pontefract Collieries
