Cleethorpes Town and Pontefract met at Bradley on Saturday with Cleethorpes looking to record a win against a side who had beaten them 3 times last season. The game proved to be a thriller with plenty of goals as both sides ended up sharing 8 goals between them in a 4 – 4 draw.
Cleethorpes where off the mark first as free kick was awarded outside the area and Tim Lowe struck the ball into the net courtesy of a deflection, Pontefract where next to hit as Nathan Perks levelled as the game was end to end before Perks got his second to give the visitors the lead, then just after the half an hour mark Lawrence Heward levelled the scores for Cleethorpes.
Shortly before half time Cleethorpes were left wanting as a defensive unit again as Perks completed his hat trick to give Pontefract the lead at half 3 – 2 to the visitors.
Whatever was said at half time saw Cleethorpes come out again and soon were back on equal terms as Luke Mascall equalised in the area before Marc Cooper gave Cleethorpes the lead as a ball into the box found Cooper unmarked at the near post to slot home.
The game settled down for a while as Cleethorpes looking to secure the points and Pontefract went in search of an equaliser and it was Pontefract who equalised through Tom Argus in the closing minutes, before a Pontefract player handled in the box, which should of been a penalty but the referee blew for full time rather than a penalty to the dismay of the majority of the watching crowd who where served up a treat on Saturday.
