Having overcome Mangotsfield United on Saturday, Town faced another local derby on Bank Holiday Monday in the shape of Bridgwater Town who arrived on the back of a defeat against Shortwood on Saturday.
The visitors started the stronger of the two sides and could have taken the lead as early as the fourth minute when a cross from Karim Rendell, who was to be a thorn in the Clevedon side all afternoon, found Tom Knighton in the clear, his final shot was cleared off the line by Kane Mannings in the home goal.
Kyle Tooze had a couple of chances for the visitors, the best of these being a long range shot on the half hour that was cleared off of the line by Man of the Match Charlie Hitchings.
Clevedon’s first real chance came on forty minutes when a good run down the right flank by Omari Sims saw his final cross/shot go just past the far post with the visitors defence well beaten.
It looked as though half time would come with the scores level but the visitors kept up the pressure and Tom Rendell put in a perfect cross from the left that found Clevedon old boy, Matt Thorne who had the easiest of tap-in’s to take the lead.
Half Time: Clevedon Town 0 Bridgwater Town 1
The second half saw the hosts start to get back to the level of football they showed on Saturday with Kyle Thomas, Aron Robbins and Joe Swift all coming close to netting the equaliser, the latter two having efforts cleared off the line by Nathan Rudge and Ben John, the visitor's custodian.
Not everything was going Clevedon’s way and Kyle Tooze in company with Karim Rendell continued to cause problems for the home defence with their runs down both flanks.
As the game was drawing to a close, Clevedon had the perfect opportunity to draw level, Troy Budd made a perfect run down the left flank and his cross from the bye-line went right through the six yard box where both Aron Robbins and Kyle Thomas missed the ball with an open goal in front of them. The pressure continued from the hosts and a thirty yard shot from Thomas was well gathered by John in the visitors' goal and he followed this up by gathering a Joe Swift free-kick from under the cross bar deep into added time.
