In this bottom of the table clash at The Hand on Saturday, both teams
started out in earnest to establish the ascendancy and it was the
visitors who claimed first blood on four minutes. They were awarded a
free-kick out on their right taken by Craig Davis and it found the head of
Simba Mlambo who had the easiest of nod downs to beat Kane Mannings at
the near post.
The game settled down and efforts started to flow thick and fast at
both ends, Town should have equalised on seven minutes when a long
ball in to the box from Jamie Adams found Omari Sims, Ryan Price
pulled off a great save diving at the feet of the striker.
The hosts were back on level terms after nineteen minutes when a long
range effort from Kye Thomas took a deflection off of a defender and
looked to be going for a corner until Aron Robbins performed an
acrobatic overhead scissor-kick that connected and sent the ball in
to the back of the visitors' net.
Despite some hectic end to end football with chances being created by
both teams there was no further score before half time. Clevedon
unfortunately went in for the interval with only ten men after Kye Thomas
was sent off for preventing an obvious goal scoring opportunity with
two minutes of the half left.
Half Time: Clevedon Town 1 Fleet Town 1
Clevedon came out for the second half and looked a different side as
they set about the task of holding on for the draw. Fleet could have
gone ahead on the hour when Craig Stanley rounded Mason Winter before
unleashing a curling shot that went just past the far post with
Mannings well beaten.
Town pushed on and the ten men re-organised themselves well and were
rewarded on sixty four minutes when Kyle Thomas accepted a nod down
from Troy Budd before cutting through the Fleet defence and shooting
from an acute angle in to the far corner to put the home side in
front.
Five minutes later Fleet failed to clear a ball bobbling around in the
box and Omari Sims was able to tap in from close range to increase the
lead.
The game started to become messy as Fleet showed their brute force and
strength as they looked for another goal and just before the final
whistle they had two players cautioned and one sent off in a nasty
incident near to the dug-outs.
