In this bottom of the table clash on Clevedon’s first visit to Bashley since relegation from the Premier Division, it was the visitors who made the running and controlled most of the first half. Lewis Hedges and Adam Buckley had long range efforts easily dealt with by the defence whilst at the other end, Kane Mannings had virtually nothing to do for long periods until the fortieth minute the hosts had a corner out on the right that was swung in to the box by Dammy Bada but Gus Sanniez made a mess of his effort and put the ball wide.
As it transpired, Clevedon wrapped up the game in the forty second minute when after a powerful run down the right by Joe Swift, he lifted his cross over the whole defence and Adam Buckley was on hand to tap the ball in to the net.
Half Time: Bashley 0 Clevedon Town 1
The second half followed a similar pattern as the first and thankfully for the visitors, Bashley had no one able to convert the one or two chances they created. Clevedon had an opportunity to put the matter beyond doubt on seventy three minutes when Leighton Speechley-Price was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area but Joe Swift hit a tame effort that was easily dealt with by Callum Maher diving low to his right to smother the shot.
Despite several more chances going to waste at both ends, there was no further change to the score and to the relief of many in the crowd the referee brought proceedings to a close.
