Clipstone gained revenge for the league defeat against Liversedge three days earlier as they won a pulsating cup tie that needed extra time after the game finished 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Clipstone had new signing Jack Siddall playing up front and the ex-Ossett Town and Matlock forward had a good first game, getting a goal on his debut.

It initially looked like a serious defeat could be on the cards as the home side scored after 30 seconds through Daniel Hull and then Vaughan Redford added a second after 22 minutes as Liversedge cut through the visitors defence with ease.

Chris Fawcus prevented a third goal for Liversedge when he cleared off the line from Hull.

The Cobras then lost ‘keeper Jamie Bailey who dived bravely at the feet of Redford as the striker ran in on goal. In doing so, Bailey aggravated a back injury and after struggling on for a further 15 minutes, he came off. Martin Brissett took over goalkeeping duties and George Milner took up the role of second striker.

Clipstone started to come more into the game as the first half came to an end and Milner forced Ben Hunter to save with his feet after beating three men and Josh Nodder shot wide after good interplay by Siddall and Ellis Wall.
Half Time 2-0

The visitors’ dressing room can’t have been a place for the faint hearted at half time and the effect was immediately apparent as the Cobras were first to every loose ball and created chance after chance.

Josh Nodder had an early effort that went wide and he then played a great long ball that Jack Siddall brought under control and then went round Hunter and put the ball into the unguarded net. 2-1

A long clearance from Brissett caught out the home defence on 53 minutes and Siddall was again 1 on 1 with Hunter but his shot was just the wrong side of the post.

Liversedge then had a great chance on 55 minutes when a cross from Matthew Waller was headed wide by Redford from six yards out. However stand-in ‘keeper Martin Brissett was a commanding presence behind his back four despite struggling with a leg injury which prevented him taking goal kicks.

The Cobras were in complete control of the game by now and Andrew Fox, Ellis Wall, George Milner and Jack Siddall all missed further chances.

There was however a scare with 13 minutes left when a fingertip save by Brissett bounced back off the bar and Rob Paling then blocked the next shot on the line which was heading in.

Clipstone got the equaliser that they deserved with ten minutes remaining when Andrew Fox saw his volley hit the bar but Milner was in the right place to head home the rebound. 2-2

The visitors almost sealed the victory in normal time when Milner went round Hunter but his shot came back off the post.

However at the other end only a great last ditch tackle from Brandon Cardwell prevented the home side from scoring after Kenny Tafireyi had gone round Brissett and looked certain to score.

Clipstone took the lead for the first time in the match when full back Michael Trench moved up to support his forwards and applied the finish to a Nodder cross on 105 minutes. 2-3

The victory was sealed with a fine solo effort from Nodder on 107 minutes.
After Extra Time 2-4

The Cobras’ man of the match award was a close affair but the verdict was that Martin Brissett edged it for his effective performance as stand-in ‘keeper.

Clipstone are now back in league action at home against Harrogate Railway on Saturday 29 October, 3pm and they then face Athersley Recreation on Saturday 5 November, 3pm..
