A massive game tomorrow for our club as our NCL team travel to Skirlaugh RL Official in the last game of the season. A win gives them the opportunity to stay in division providing other results go in our favour
A head of the game Lee Cunningham (sponsored by The Bull and Dog) gives his thoughts on the game and the reaction to last Wednesday night's fantastic win against Wigan St Patricks A.R.L.F.C which allows the team to be able to be in this position and complete the great escape ?????
" The Clock Face Miners 'Great Escape' is still on... I cannot begin to even start to describe to you how good it feels that we are still in a position to be able to declare that to you, as we embark upon the final week of the 2024 season. "Head's on", though; we will not be resting on our laurels when we go and challenge the wounded animal that is Skirlaugh. It doesn't seem too long ago that the East Hull club were at the top of the grassroots rugby league tree, sweeping all before them, so with such a successful recent history as a core part of their DNA, we need to appreciate that we are still in the race, but fully focused on what we need to achieve.
After every game that we win, the dressing rooms call out with our winning song, "Allez, Allez, Allez". The mere fact that after our victory over Wigan St Pats, club skipper Lewis Geraghty turned and headed to the showers declaring "No song" comforted me somewhat. As we looked around at each other, getting ready to go ballistic after such a polished performance, Lewis knew that the job was only half done, and the group did need to keep our feet very firmly planted on the floor. Well done, halfway there, but "Hey!! Finish The Job!!". His focus, attitude and behaviour will bring the song home if his charges grab hold of his belt, and follow him with the same determined, gritty focus into our final fixture.
A few spaces remain on the coach for the trip to Skirlaugh on Saturday, and I would urge anyone who still wishes to go and support the boys to contact Club Treasurer, Sarah Costello to book their place on the trip. We hope that we get to see you there for what promises to be a game of epic magnitude for the club; your support is a difference-maker and a foundation from which we build, as a playing and coaching group, to continually strive for improvement on our progressive journey.
Take care, be kind, and keep smiling"
Lee Cunningham
