The time has come, not even 100 days after Coedpeth United's last competitive game and we are ready to do it all again.
Coedy host Welsh National League Premier Division stalwarts Hawarden in their first game of the league season and what a tie it promises to be.
Pre-season has been hugely successful for Coedpeth United with key players being retained and faces both new and old appearing at training and in squads throughout the hectic pre-season calendar. CUFC have shown flashes of what they can do this season, the highlights including a 9-1 steamrolling of Maesgwyn and playing a strong Rhos Aelwyd side off the park in a 4-1 victory. Even in defeat CUFC have mostly been compact and difficult to break down, evident none more so than in the 2-0 defeat to Rhydymwyn, without 6 players who dropped out late on, a makeshift side did the 'Poeth proud!
For this opening league fixture, manager Karl Fenlon has had somewhat of a selection headache with only Max Butler and Ollie Wright-Powell being unavailable, it didn't give Fenlon much help, so he has decided to go with a squad of 16 which will mean 5 subs.
Jimmy 'Sainsbury' Hickman is in the sticks in the absence of Butler. Sion Turner has an opportunity to and is expected to make his debut, Joe Wright and Aaron Caplin also in with a shout on that front. Mike Taylor and Tom Redman are expected to be reunited in midfield despite only 1 pre-season game together, they may also be joined in the middle of the park by the returning Sam Davies, who is available after a year-long sabbatical, or Mykel Woolett. CUFC's side contains 4 left-footed players and two of these, Nathan Jones and 16 year-old debutant Kyle Walker will be hoping to be in the goals as they look to link up down the left.
In other news, CUFC will also be selling their first ever match programme, with only limited numbers available, please make sure you pick one up from the refreshments kiosk to help us out!
A huge game, but not one in which Coedy should hold any fears! It's like Christmas Eve all over again, the season's kick off is just around the corner!
Up the Poeth.
