A personal note for me tonight this is my 100th game watching the bears where I have done match reports.
Attentions for Congleton Town tonight turn to the Cheshire Senior Cup. A competition which in the past two seasons have progressed towards the latter stages of. They will be looking to get revenge on the team that dumped them out last year, before they went on to win the Midland premier division and Midland League cup.
Crewe Alex however use this cup competition to give youngsters a chance for some senior football and bringing squad players back to full fitness it will be interesting to see there line up tonight.
Team news:
Tom Hampton starts for the bears tonight. Along with George Sankey, Matt Gilliam and Kieran garner knapper. Darren Chadwick captains the side. Max Mccarthy and Richard Duffy on the bench. Still no Dan Needham in the squad.
Owen Lunt and Charlie finney both start for Crewe who have both had first team
Minutes this season.
There is lots of the Bear Army here who have travelled the short distance down the road from Congleton. This game goes straight to Penalties if all square at full time.
First Half:
A chance for the bears, in the early stages Tom Hampton with the header but it’s ruled as offside.
Another chance for the bears but it’s hit wide by knapper.
Big shouts for a penalty for the bears but it’s waved away by the referee after a potential handball.

Crewe’s first big chance and made The bears Pay with a fantastic ball in and and good header past Parton.
1-0 Crewe
A great Congleton move sees the Crewe keeper make a superb save from a Kieran garner knapper chance.
A corner to the bears a ball in by Pete Williams and it’s Tom Hampton with the header saved by the keeper.
Congleton struggling here at the minute against a good Crewe side.
Crewe with another chance as a lose ball from Pete Williams sees the Crewe attacker get too it. But Dave Parton does well to clear it away.
Another chance for the Bears knapper does well but its hits curved over the crossbar.
Crewe with a free kick in a good postion after Darren Chadwick brings the attacker down. A good effort on goal forces Parton into making a good save.
Half time
Crewe Alex 1-0 Congleton Town
A good goal sees the bears down at half time. Congleton had a good spell just before half time keeping the ball nicely but couldn’t find the goal to equal things up. The bears will be looking for a spark in the second half. And may look to Max McCarthy to try and change the game.
Second half:
GOOOOAAAAL ⚽️⚽️ Crewe Alex
A good Crewe move see’s the Bears go two down. The bears just couldn’t get the ball away and were made to pay.

A big chance for the bears forces the Crewe keeper to make a great save. There knocking on the door but can’t find a way back into the game yet.

That’s the goal that will seal the game for Crewe, it’s been a good display from there young team.
Sub for the bears George Sankey off on comes Josh Ryder
GOOOOAAAAL ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ it’s 4 to Crewe and it’s a worldie of a finish the best goal of the lot. This could get very bad for the bears in terms of scoreline

Lewis Porter with a consolation goal for the bears. And gives the Bear faithful something to cheer about. His mates sat above the dugout liked that goal.

Congleton with another goal and Ethan Hartshorn with the goal! Could a comeback be on the cards?!!….
A HUGE penalty shout for the bears but again it’s not given by the referee.

The bears put up a fight in the last 10 minutes of the game but it wasn’t meant to be tonight. One positive to take away from tonight is we are now out of all the cup competitions and can focus solely on the league.

Owen Morris had some bright spells in the game tonight.
Up next for the bears is a home game in the league against Newcastle town. Then another home game on Tuesday against Clitheroe.
