First of all I’d just like to wish you all a very happy Christmas. Congleton are back at home today for this Festive fixture. This is the first time in a long time that we haven’t had a “Derby”fixture on Boxing Day.
Richard Duffy’s men are in fantastic form and are sitting comfortably in 3rd place. Could another promotion be on the cards….
Coming into the Bears Den today is City of Liverpool (in this report I will say COL when talking about them)
They come into this game hoping for a Christmas miracle they are rooted at the Bottom of the league table, and haven’t picked up any points in the last 6 games. They will have it all to do against a very good Congleton Town side.
Team news:
Richard Duffy starts for the bears this afternoon. Max Mccarthy, Tom Hampton Lewis Porter, Tom Allen and Josh Ryder all on the bench for the Bears today.
First half:
Before the first half gets underway there is a minute silence to remember those that have sadly passed away this past year ??
The pitch is looking in as good condition as possible with all the rain we have had. At a misty and cold cleric stadium.
An early chance for the bears, Dan needham does well finds gillam who tries to chip it over the keeper.
Another chance for the bears with George sankey doing well with the ball. Takes the shot on but it goes just wide.

Congleton do really well a fantastic move, Danny Needham does really well and Matty Gillam finishes it off nicely!

A big save by the COL keeper who keeps out Dan Needham again. City of Liverpool are on the rocks here! But it’s still 1-0!
Consecutive corners for the bears sees them put COL under pressure again.
The fog seems to be getting worse here at the Cleric stadium we might need a yellow ball in the second Half.
A free kick given to the bears in a good position taken by Peter Williams it’s brought back out of the box and hit it just goes past the post.
Yet again more pressure by the bears but couldn’t find the back of the net. It’s still 1-0 so far City of Liverpool have dealt with the pressure well.
The Bears should have had a penalty! Number 5 of COL practically catches the ball as the bears have a corner it’s a shocking decision from the referee who’s been very very poor.
Half time

It’s been a good half for the bears and all the bears with city of Liverpool not really creating much in terms of chances. The referee has had an awful first half especially after missing the COL defender trying to play Volleyball.
Second Half:

A fantastic start to the second half!
George sankey does really well and finishes it fantastically. With his weaker foot. It rolls into the
2-0!

It’s a 3rd for bears and Matty Gillam is playing really well today and gets the goal he deserves. The COL Defence has collapsed. They will be wishing the fog stuck around.

It’s 4 in the space of minutes The Bears have turned the screw. And destroyed very very poor City of Liverpool side.
Danny Needham scored with a superb finish that’s his second of the game.
Sub for the bears off goes Matty Gilliam on comes Max McCarthy.
COL have a chance and it was superb save by England number 1 Dave Parton! Tips it onto the cross bar.
COL putting abit of pressure on the bears now but Parton makes another good save.
Congleton win a free kick in a fantastic position after the foul on Max McCarthy. McCarthy is over the ball looks like he’s going to take he does and it’s hit straight into the wall.

It’s 5-0! City of Liverpool have officially collapsed this afternoon at the cleric Stadium. It was great play by George sankey who Finishes the ball off nicely!

Im sure nothing more than a consolation goal for COL I can’t see the bears Defence collapsing like Man City!
Second sub for the bears Ethan hartshorn comes off on comes Lewis Porter.
Fantastic work by Owen Morris who does superb! Plays through George sankey who couldn’t get the ball back to him but wins a corner.
The COL players are rattled by the bears faithful.

It was a fantastic display in the second half by the bears who were rampant against a very poor City of Liverpool side.
The inquest for the defeat started for COL straight after the full time whistle with the players sat on the pitch having a Phil brown moment.
Men of the match: it’s going to 3 players today! Who I thought were all fantastic. George Sankey, Dan Needham and Matty Gillam.

The Bears March on and end the year in style! And move into second place! Up next is an away derby day on New Year’s Day against Kidsgrove.
